My name is Cindy Maraist Gioe. I was born and raised in Morgan City, La and I now live in Slidell. LA. My parents, Buzzy and JoAnn Maraist, were born and raised in Crowley, LA so our family roots are deep Cajun. Back in the mid-1990s, I would watch my daddy “stir the pot” until his Roux was the perfect color. As my passion for cooking grew, I learned how to cook my Roux from him.
In 2009, I took my Roux to the next level by adding the “Holy Trinity” and a generous sprinkle of Slap Ya Mama Seasoning and preparing batches to jar and give to my family and close friends. It was then that my Daddy started watching me “stir the pot”. He would always ask, “Why do you cook so much roux at one time?” My answer: To make life simple anytime someone has the craving to eat a Gumbo.
After retiring from my 33-year career in 2018, I constantly thought about my dream of selling “Cindy’s Almost Famous Roux”. In 2019 and 2020, I started selling it to more and more friends, family and friends of friends and it kept gaining popularity across South Louisiana. By the Grace of God and my Daddy watching over me from Heaven, I officially started my business in January 2021. Since my official beginning and through November 2022, I have personally prepared, cooked, packed and delivered over 12,000 packs of Roux throughout South Louisiana and the Mississippi and Alabama Gulf Coast. AND my Roux has even made it to a few Cajun Specialty Markets in Tennessee and North Carolina.

With every batch that I personally cook, I feel the presence of my Daddy helping me “stir the pot”. My heart overflows with cherished memories and I feel so Thankful, Grateful and Blessed to be able to share my passion with others. A HUGE thank you goes out to my Family, Friends, Workers and Customers who have helped make my Dream become a Reality!!!
